Thompson Creek Organics In the News: Mail Tribune, Feb 6, 2008

December 20th , 2007 - We did it!! Our Apple Cider is back in production and better than ever! How can it be better? We improved the process... All our cider is now UV treated instead of being heat pasteurized. What does this mean? It means we use an FDA approved process that uses UV light to kill any possible bad microbes in the juice. This achieves the same result as heat pasteurization but keeps all of the raw cider flavor and beneficial enzymes intact. You'll have to taste it to believe it. It is absolutely incredible! And of course, it is still 100% USDA certified organic. Look for it (and ask for it) at the local markets in Ashland, Medford and Grants Pass.

This year we have also done some grafting so we can bring some new apple varieties to market. We are converting about fifty of our mature Red Delicious trees into Arkansas Black, Ginger Gold, Williams Pride, and Matsu. Keep visiting us at the grower's markets and you'll start seeing these varieties as they come into production.

Thompson Creek Organics is a small, family owned orchard located in Southern Oregon's Applegate Valley  We are certified organic by the Oregon Tilth and offer organic apples, organic apple cider and other organic produce to local markets, restaurants, and growers markets in Ashland, Medford and Grants Pass.  We grow six different varieties of apples on 6 acres of our land.  Our annual harvest yields approximately eighty thousand pounds of apples.

At Thompson Creek Organics, we refuse to pick our apples until they have fully ripened on the trees.  We refrigerate every bin of fruit as it is harvested so each apple stays as crisp, sweet and fresh as the day it came off the tree.

We believe that local, sustainable, organic agriculture is key to our future.

Since we are concerned about our environment, we choose to chip all of our prunings. This results in large piles of apple wood chips that we use as a natural mulch throughout our property. Although this process is very labor intensive, we feel this is a much better alternative to burning all of those prunings.
